Radio Martí: Movimiento Cristiano Liberación invita a exiliados y senadores a respaldar petición sobre Payá que ya supera las 15 mil firma
El Movimiento Cristiano Liberación (MCL) invita a cubanos exiliados y a un grupo de senadores estadounidenses a respaldar una petición que exige a las Naciones Unidas una investigación que esclarezca las circunstancias en que murieron los miembros de este grupo opositor, Oswaldo Payá y Harold Cepero, en julio de 2012. El pedido, dirigido a Michelle Bachelet, Alta Comisionada para los Derechos Humanos de la ONU, sobrepasó esta semana las 15 mil firmas, un hecho que celebró en declaraciones a Radio Televisión Martí Carlos Payá, representante en España del MCL.

«Quería aprovechar, y lo hago con toda humildad y respeto, a dirigirme a los senadores Rubio, senador Cruz, Senador Scott y otros que están tomando iniciativas muy valiosas para el recuerdo del legado de mi hermano Oswaldo. Les pido por favor que también se sumen a esta iniciativa y firmen y difundan esta petición porque sería un espaldarazo muy importante», declaró Carlos Payá en referencia a la resolución presentada el lunes por el senador republicano Ted Cruz, junto con sus colegas Marco Rubio y Rick Scott y los demócratas Dick Durbin y Ben Cardin para cambiar el nombre de la calle al frente de la Embajada de Cuba en Washington DC y llamarla «Oswaldo Payá Way».
Para el activista cubano residente en España, superar las 15 mil firmas de la petición alojada en Change. org, que insta a Bachelet a interceder ante La Habana para que se realice una investigación transparente, objetiva e imparcial de los hechos, representa «un peldaño más porque no hay un límite para firmas, pero es una cifra ya muy significativa». El representante del movimiento creado por Oswaldo Payá en 1988 agradeció «a todos los que firman y difunden esta petición» y recordó que la web change. org está bloqueda en la isla. «Entonces hago un llamamiento a los cubanos que están en el exterior, que sí pueden acceder a firmar, que lo hagan», declaró. «No hay que llegar a una cantidad concreta para que nos escuche, pero mientras más seamos, más posibilidades tenemos de que esto fructifique», agregó. El texto de la petición recuerda que Oswaldo José Payá Sardiñas fue uno de los más importantes líderes políticos de Cuba en los últimos años, fundador del conocido Proyecto Varela y del Movimiento Cristiano Liberación (MCL) y que fue reconocido con el Premio Sájarov por el Parlamento Europeo y nominado al Premio Nobel de la Paz. Su activismo «estuvo siempre enmarcado en la Defensa de los Derechos Humanos, la Democracia y el diálogo como instrumentos para mejorar las condiciones de vida del pueblo cubano, en tales actividades en el pretendido ejercicio de sus Derechos Civiles, asumió posiciones críticas al gobierno cubano, lo cual generó persecuciones y amenazas de diversa índole, y muy lamentablemente falleció (al igual que Harold Cepero, joven activista del MCL) en circunstancias aún no aclaradas en fecha 22 de julio de 2012 en la provincia de Granma (Cuba) presuntamente como consecuencia de un “accidente automovilístico”, según la información pública de las autoridades del Estado de Cuba
Petition requiring the UN to investigate the death of Oswaldo Payá and Harold Cepero exceeds 15,000 signatures
MIAMI, United States.- The request of the Christian Liberation Movement (MCL) that demands an investigation from the United Nations to clarify the circumstances in which the members of this opposition group, Oswaldo Payá and Harold Cepero, died in July 2012, exceeded this week the 15,000 signatures, according to statements to Radio Television Martí by Carlos Payá, representative in Spain of the MCL.
The request, addressed to Michelle Bachelet, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, invites exiled Cubans and a group of US senators to support said investigation, whose support Carlos Payá thanked.
“I wanted to take the opportunity, and I do so with all humility and respect, to address Senators Rubio, Senator Cruz, Senator Scott and others who are taking very valuable initiatives to remember the legacy of my brother Oswaldo. I ask you to please also join this initiative and sign and disseminate this petition because it would be a very important support ”said Payá regarding the resolution presented this Monday to change the name of the street in front of the Cuban Embassy in Washington DC and call it “Oswaldo Payá Way”.
That the petition that requires an investigation to the UN reached 15,000 signatures this week represents “one more step because there is no limit for signatures, but it is already a very significant figure,” and added that, although “it is not necessary to to a specific amount so that he listens to us ”(Bachelet)“ the more we are, the more chances we have that this will bear fruit ”.
The representative of the movement created by Oswaldo Payá in 1988 thanked “all those who sign and disseminate this petition,” and called on Cubans outside of Cuba to sign, since the change.org website is blocked on the island.
The text of the petition recalls that Oswaldo José Payá Sardiñas was one of the most important political leaders of Cuba in recent years, founded the well-known Varela Project and the Christian Liberation Movement (MCL) and was recognized with the Sakharov Prize by the European Parliament and nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
His activism “was always framed in the Defense of Human Rights, Democracy and dialogue as instruments to improve the living conditions of the Cuban people, in such activities in the alleged exercise of their Civil Rights, he assumed critical positions to the Cuban government, which generated persecution and threats of various kinds, and very unfortunately he died (like Harold Cepero, a young MCL activist) in circumstances not yet clarified on July 22, 2012 in the province of Granma (Cuba), presumably as a consequence of a ´car accident´, according to the public information of the authorities of the State of Cuba ”, adds the document.
