El Comité gestor del Proyecto Varela nos informa desde Cuba que en una reacción desesperada para detener el avance de recogida de firmas para un nuevo reclamo de referendo , el régimen ha aumentado la represión mas que nunca y allanaron la residencia de Minervo Chil Siret donde se robaron miles de firmas pendientes por entregar y los nombres, direcciones y listas de firmantes .
Este nuevo relanzamiento del Proyecto Varela y la recogida de firmas,mas los acontecimientos con agresiones por parte de la policia a los activistas para evitar celebraciones en la conmemoracion del Día de los Derechos Humanos han hecho que se mobilicen todos los recursos de intimidacion ciudadanas al poner en evidencia que este régimen represivo no quiere permitir un pensamiento alternativo al oficial
El Proyecto Varela es una iniciativa ciudadana de reclamo al cambio sustentado por la actual Constitución Cubana que recogió en el 2002 mas de 25,000 firmas de ciudadanos votantes y como se evidencia sigue activo en la recogida.
Ponemos en conocimiento de la comunidad internacional ,gobiernos y autoridades , así como organizaciones no gubernamentales que este deterioro al no permitir la defensa de los derechos del pueblo, solo esta llevando a esta República por caminos contrarios a la unidad y la reconciliación del pueblo.

The Varela Project organizers inCuba have informed us that the Cuban government has increased its repression now more than ever before. In a desperate attempt to stop the collection of signatures for the Varela Project referendum, the government broke into the house of Minervo Chil Siret and stole thousands of signatures that were ready for submission, along with the lists containing the names and addresses of all signatories.
In the context of the recent re-launch of the Varela Project, the collection of more signatures and the commemoration of Human Rights Day, the regime has mobilized all of its mechanisms of intimidation against its citizens, demonstrating that it will not tolerate any viewpoints other than its own.
The Varela Project is a civic initiative that calls for democratic change on the island based on the provisions of the current Cuban Constitution. In 2002, more than 25,000 signatures were collected through this initiative and, as we have demonstrated, the Project is still active.
We want to inform the international community, governments and non-governmental organizations that the situation is worsening. By hindering our people’s efforts to defend their rights, the government is leading this Republic on a path that runs contrary to unity and reconciliation.
